Induction

South African law requires employers to ensure that both employees and contractors receive proper induction training before beginning work. This training must cover site-specific hazards, safety procedures, and emergency protocols to protect health and safety at the workplace

Maintaining records of induction training is both a best practice and a legal expectation.

These records serve several purposes:

  • Proof of compliance: Demonstrates that the employer has met legal training obligations under OHSA and sector-specific regulations (e.g., Construction or Mining Regulations).

  • Audit and inspection readiness: Provides documented evidence during inspections by the Department of Employment and Labour or other regulatory bodies.

  • Tracking and review: Helps identify who has received training, when it occurred, and what topics were covered.

  • Legal protection: Acts as a safeguard in case of incidents, investigations, or legal disputes involving workplace injuries.
