Safety Officer

The Certificate is designed to be delivered through a blended learning approach consisting of self-study, contact sessions and workplace applications.

The following represent the core learning units of the Certificate:
• Assist with workplace compliance with Workplace Health and Safety laws.
• Contribute to implementation and maintenance of Workplace Health and Safety consultation and participation processes.
• Contribute to Workplace Health and Safety risk management.
• Contribute to implementing Workplace Health and Safety management systems.
• Contribute to workplace incident response.
• Assist with managing Workplace Health and Safety implications of return to work.
• Assist with managing Workplace Health and Safety compliance of contractors.
• Contribute to implementing Workplace Health and Safety monitoring processes.
• Demonstrate leadership in the workplace.
• Manage implementation of emergency procedures.

Core elements of the curriculum typically include modules such as, but not limited to:
Knowledge Modules: such as Basics of Occupational Health and Safety, OHS Administration and Records Management, Communication Principles within the OHS Field, Fundamentals of Employee Representation in OHS Matters, Overview of the Legal Framework Governing OHS.
Practical Modules: such as Identifying Hazards and Assessing Risks, Conducting Workplace Safety Inspections, Emergency Response Planning and Procedures, Delivering OHS Training and Awareness.
Workplace Experience: Hands-on OHS practice in a real work environment, often spanning a designated period (e.g., 36 days)
